Printing Sunflowers to Aid Humanitarian Efforts in Ukraine

Millions of families have fled the violence in Ukraine, while many have stayed behind to fight. All are suffering unimaginable conditions. People experiencing this conflict will feel the immediate effects from loss of food, shelter and often family, as well as long term trauma to their physical and mental health. How might we be of help?
As a means of showing my support for the people of Ukraine, this month, I will begin donating a portion of proceeds from all the Sunflower printed products I sell (towels, aprons, napkins, etc.) to Sunflower of Peace, a non-profit organization with offices in greater Boston as well as in Ukraine, that provides children and families in Ukraine with life-saving medical and humanitarian aid.
Join me in helping them in one of two ways.

NEW, SAFER, FACE MASK DESIGN

NEW, SAFER, FACE MASK DESIGN

She’s done it again.  As goes Covid, so goes Saya. In response to Omicron and the new recommendation that we all upgrade our face coverings to N95 masks, the remarkable Saya Cullinan, designer and sewer of my Pretty Flours Face Masks, has perfected a redesign. The same pretty and extraordinarily comfortable Pretty Flours Face Masks…

Collaboration

A new design always begins with a drawing, or a painting. Or several of both. A few weeks ago, when I began playing with design ideas for a 2021 Holiday print, I created numerous watercolor sketches in a sketchbook I keep for surface designs. Once I’d landed on some shapes I liked, I carved them…

PRETTY FLOURS FACE MASKS

PRETTY FLOURS FACE MASKS

6.25.2020 | I began printing fabric for face masks in early May, mostly in response to the increasingly adamant counsel from those studying the science behind the Covid 19, including Maine’s CDC director, Dr. Nirav Shah. As Dr. Shah and the epidemiologists studying the Corona Virus increased their calls for us all to wear masks…

I GOT A MINI-GRANT!

I GOT A MINI-GRANT!

6.1.2020 | Back in March, as I was faced with the reality that my ability to market my products to retail buyers would be greatly diminished due to the shut down, it became obvious that I’d need to infuse some adrenaline into my direct-to-consumer sales. But how to do that when every week I was…

INSPIRATION & PROCESS

INSPIRATION & PROCESS

The design of each of my towels and table linens reflects my verve for color and for functional objects representative of good design. My work is inspired by a life-long passion for the natural world – by nature’s colors, patterns and form. I consider myself a researcher of ecology: studying closely, then rendering what I see….
